By 2011, Singapore will be equipped to stage an entire spectrum of adrenaline-pumping, decibel-raising international motorsport race at the new permanent Changi Race Circuit, off Changi Coast Road, near the Changi Ferry Terminal. When completed, the circuit will boast a 2.8-3.5 km. or longer Grade 2 racetrack approved by the FIA (the world governing body for motorsports), featuring an approximate 1km. straight (the longest in SE Asia) and including a Grade 1 karting track, and with stands capable of seating at least 15,000 spectators. The aim is for the circuit to play host to at least three international races and two national events each year (potebtially the A1 Grand Prix, the GT1 Championship, the MotoGP, world rally, and karting), plus motorsports events, exhibitions and launches. The track will also be a platform for Singaporeans to engage in motorsports at a recreational level, and will be open to businesses and companies involved in developing or refining cars, motorbikes and other vehicles. The S$84 million project will be fully funded by the private sector - tenders to build and operate the racetrack on a 30-year tenure will go out in May 2008.

The Singapore Motor Sports Association (SMSA) came into being in 1994 when the Singapore Motor Sports Club (SMSC) changed its status from that of a club to that of a National Sporting Association (NSA), recognised by the Singapore Sports Council as the governing body for all forms of motor sports in Singapore. (The SMSC was created in 1969 through the amalgamation of the Forces Driving Club and the Singapore Motor Club.) SMSA is affiliated to international motor sports governing bodies such as the Federation Internationale De L'Automobile (FIA), Federation Internationale Motorcyclisme (FIM), and Commission Internationale De Karting-FIA (CIK-FIA), which collectively control every aspect of motor sports in the international arena.
SMSA organises tarmac-surfaced motor sport activities in the Kallang car parks adjacent to the National Stadium (fondly known by enthusiasts as the Kallang Autodrome !), such as: Car (Autotest (Auto Gymkhana), Sprints/Supersprints, car park rallies), Motorcycle (Supermoto or Supermotard, Cub Prix), and Go-Kart. A calendar of events can be found on the Singapore Motor Sports Association website.
